Kevin Drew is a Canadian musician, songwriter, and producer who co-founded the expansive Toronto indie rock collective Broken Social Scene. In 2021, the band was named by Pitchfork as one of the Most Important Artists of the last 25 years. K.C. Accidental, Drew’s late-90s post-rock instrumental project with Charles Spearin, put him on the radar of 90s alt rock veteran Brendan Canning (hHead). Drew and Canning, as Broken Social Scene, would create the late-night homespun debut Feel Good Lost (2001), enlisting friends and community members to take part in the recording. The rotating cast, which included Feist as well as members of Do Make Say Think, Metric, and Stars, became more solidified while recording their sophomore album, You Forgot It In People (2002). Pitchfork called the album “endlessly replayable, perfect pop” and the BBC called it “absolutely, utterly essential.” The band, and Arts & Crafts (the label co-founded by Drew to release the album), was catapulted onto the global stage. The collective subsequently released Broken Social Scene (2004), Forgiveness Rock Record (2009) produced by John McEntire (Tortoise), and Hug Of Thunder (2017). Drew has released four solo records: Spirit If... (2007), the shambolic solo debut, Darlings (2014), a synth-pop-tinged follow up, and Influences (2021), an electronic record under the moniker K.D.A.P. In 2023, Drew announced Aging (2023), a collection of minimalist piano ballads influenced by the passing of family and friends.
