Ulaş navigates the balance between tradition and experimentation. He finds a home in an ambient Anatolian sound world that slows down the flow of time and meditatively mixes old historical melodies with contemporary sounds. He weaves a tapestry of sound, creating soundscapes that blend Turkish, Anatolian, Armenian, and Ottoman musical heritages with a contemporary perspective. In addition to the advanced traditional technique received from Armenia, he expands the boundaries of the duduk through extended techniques and electronics. Canberk Ulaş is a Turkish – duduk player, living in Sweden and exploring new sonic lands. On his latest solo album (2024), he collaborated with legendary Norwegian musicians Arve Henriksen, Eivind Aarset, Bugge Wesseltoft and Jan Bang, and received positive attention in the international music press. “When the playing of Canberk Ulaş meets your ear, the duduk appears as one of the only things that manages to reach deep inside.” Ballade Music Magazine – NO “An artistic skill that both intellectually stimulates and emotionally engages us as listeners.” Der Kultur Blog – DE Jazz Album of The Week NDR – DE “Mediterranean fatalism and the melancholy of endless winters, a balance that this captivating record embodies to perfection.” Indie Rock Mag – FR “The strong, yearning sound of Ulaş’ duduk leads poignantly in this ethereal soundscape.” Songlines – UK
