Biography

Edward Perez is a bassist, composer, and arranger based in Queens, New York. His works have been recorded and performed by many artists including Silkroad Ensemble, Yo-Yo Ma, Cristina Pato, Ignacio Berroa, and Kenan Adnawi. With saxophonist/composer Michael Thomas, he co-founded the 18-piece Terraza Big Band. In addition to his work as a sideman and touring player, Perez is a member of trumpeter Jason Palmer's quintet. Perez issued The Year of Two Summers, his leader debut, in 2008. In 2012 he was a featured soloist on Arturo Stable's Cuban Crosshatching. In 2019, Terraza Big Band released One Day Wonder and took home the 2020 Grammy Award for Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album. Perez worked with Roxana Ahmed on Ontology (2021) and Unánime (2022), and pianist Emilo Villafranca on Standing by the Crossroads (2023). That year he appeared on composer Jeff Scott's Grammy-winning oratorio Passion for Bach and Coltrane. ~ Thom Jurek, Rovi
