One word comes to mind when describing the background of Christophe Darbouze, unorthodox. Coming from a family who migrated from Haiti, dance music seemed like a long way off from the calypso, and salsa rhythms Chris grew up with, but New York City is home to the unorthodox. Early on he took an interest in music, even being known as a small child, to take apart his father's stereo system to see how it all worked. That curious nature led him to seek out the sounds he was hearing in the streets of Brooklyn, the people, and the laughter, eventually learning to DJ from local hip hop DJs and learning the secrets of jazz on piano. Christophe's solo work is inspired by the experiences in and out of the club, the people, the after-hours, and the journey through life. His latest project “Mike Jaquelline” is a journey through the memories of being young and naive against the backdrop of the urban coast of New York City. His coming work looks toward taking that sound to another level, something that takes all the past to make a new future whether it be house music, a funk jam, or jazz, whichever way you go it's gonna make you dance”
