Maiya Hershey is an experimental Lebanese-Argentinian sound designer and new media artist based in Portugal. Her musical journey, although initially rooted in classical piano, has evolved to encompass a rich variety of sounds influenced by elements of nature, field recordings, and long ambiences. Hershey often experiments with synthesizers and digital production tools to craft soundscapes, frequently sampling from her own field recordings. This synthesis of traditional and digital elements is driven by her interest in hauntology and ecology, and has been a distinctive hallmark of her creative approach since she began releasing singles in 2011. Maiya has released three albums since her debut in 2017: 'Tides' and the two-part 'PianoWorks Vol 1 & 2'. She recently collaborated with Japan's Steve Jansen on the album 'Neither Present nor Absent'. Her track “We Spend All Eternity Looking for Us”, part of the solo piano works collected in PianoWorks Vol 1. And 2, has garnered a plethora of positive global reviews since its inclusion on Calm, a sleep and meditation app, receiving over 11 million listens.
