X-290 (Turbotito & Ragz Remix)

Biography

The Jets Orkhestra were a groundbreaking dance music project from Harrow, London. The brainchild of Pankaj "Jets" Jethwa, they released three EPs between 1990-92, now all highly sought after. The group was built around the production work of Jethwa, rapper Val Dubois (aka M.C.V) and two female vocalists – Bindu Sri who sang on the EP ‘Aaja Re Aaja’ (1990) and Bharti, who sang on the EP ‘Tum Mera Pyar Ho’ (1992). The Jets Orkhestra’s first release, a cover of Giorgio Moroder’s Chase, did so well that Jethwa used the royalties to bankroll his label Garage Groove Recording Corporation – a decision he made after getting turned down by the UK’s biggest bhangra labels who couldn’t figure out how to market a Black rapper performing with an Asian female vocalist. Born in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania to a Gujarati family, Jethwa moved to London, England in 1976, aged 18. Soon after moving to London, he would start DJing with his brother Kishan at house parties around town. Playing disco and jazz-funk classics, Jethwa would start working a Roland TR-808 drum machine and SH-101 synth into their sets. Fascinated by music technology, Jethwa cut his teeth in production at prominent recording studios and, in the late 80s, built his own fully fledged studio, Garage Groove Studios, out of his home. Jethwa's studio quickly built a reputation, becoming a workplace for remixers like Amit & Sanj of X-zecutive as well as his own projects, including Lady M and the production outfit 2Kool.
