Mishkin Fitzgerald, frontwoman of progressive rock band Birdeatsbaby, plays darkly tinged pianos ballads and melancholic alt-pop tunes. Moving on from early influences of classical piano music and opera, she later found solace in alternative artists such as Nick Cave, Patti Smith and Kate Bush. The result is a sound that is distinctive, fragile and unapologetic.
