Biography

ODIL is a jazz and improvised music quintet based in Brussels. Bandleader and pianist Camille-Alban Spreng is joined by the finest jazz musicians in Belgium. Saxophonists Tom Bourgeois and Sam Comerford (1st prize in Avignon 2017), Geoffrey Fiorese (Toots Thielemans Award 2017) and french drummer Paul Berne (1st prize Jazz à la Défense 2014). With a wide range of influences (Jim Black, Tim Berne, Steve Lehman, John Zorn, Carla Bley) and the energy of a rock band, their music reaches a wide audience, from the improvised music enthusiast to the wild riffs fan. Angular rhythms, sudden twists, epic melodies: not without a certain maliciousness, ODIL blurs the tracks, banishing the concept of linearity to embrace change and narration as the core of the aesthetic experience. The group has released two albums: Something (2016) and RESON (2019) in collaboration with singer Leïla Martial and cellist Valentin Ceccaldi. 'Unheimlich', the third album to be released in 2023 on W.E.R.F. Records, is a series of songs inspired by the poets of the Beat Generation and features singer songwriter Nina Kortekaas.
