Artist, composer, producer Matthew Wilcock bridges the gap between modern classical, electronic and conceptual. Using muted acoustic pianos, vintage and modern synthesizers, Matthew Wilcock creates electro-acoustic instrumental music that is freighted with emotion. Following on from his recent EP of muted piano solos, Paint & Dance, his new album It Can Only Change expanded his sonic palette by placing his piano through multiple effects units and adding the retro-futurist sounds of the Roland Juno 60, the Oberheim SEM and the Yamaha CS-60. OUT a piece from the album, was developed into a large format video installation in the form of a moving abstract graphic score that is currently being displayed in the Outernet Gallery in Tottenham Court Road, London. Earlier this year, in a Brian Eno-like move, Matthew was applying his musical mind to more abstract problems and quietly shaping the sound of the world we live in. An amazing collaboration with Transport for London to create the AVAS sound used by the capital’s electric buses. “something that will make the soundscape of the city a bit better, from an emotional point of view. You can see it as a giant audio installation..” and in a similar vain helping develop the next generation of UI sounds for Microsoft and shaping the sound of the BBC with their first ever master sonic brand. Matthew also scored the BAFTA nominated, critically acclaimed feature film Apostasy and Palme D’or winning film, Waves ‘98.
