Biography

A lauded drummer who’s mastered an array of musical settings—such as guesting on late-night TV, keeping time for some of today’s most beloved singer-songwriters (Brandi Carlile, Natalie Merchant), being a renowned bandleader (Allison Miller’s Boom Tic Boom, Artemis) and composer in her own right—Allison Miller is always at the heart of the music. Her new studio album 'Rivers In Our Veins' is an original 12-song cycle emanating her passion to embody real-world issues into her writing. Embracing the concept of flow and renewal, she dedicates her music to our nation’s rivers, watersheds, and the organizations devoted to reviving and protecting them. Tracks like “Hudson,” “Fierce” and “Of Two Rivers," highlight the core message about the vital role waterways play in everyday life. Featuring a deeply telepathic cast of improvisers, Allison is joined by longtime collaborators, including violinist Jenny Scheinman, clarinetist Ben Goldberg, pianist Carmen Staaf, trumpeter Jason Palmer, bassist Todd Sickafoose, and tap dancers Claudia Rahardjanoto, Michelle Dorrance, Elizabeth Burke, Byron Tittle, and Orlando Hernández. In its sum, 'Rivers In Our Veins’ is a modern jazz clarion call for listeners to ask themselves: “What’s your local river? And what can you do for it?”
