Biography

From humble beginnings, without a producer but with a tongue and a wit that belied a talent for rapping, Pasha Yusuf, otherwise known as Kink Yosev, started chasing his passion for music in high school. He collaborated with high school, and often primary school friends, to create hip hop that took influence from many sources. The diversity of his influences stemmed from his upbringing with his two elder sisters who exposed him to a range of music, from the hip hop act N.E.R.D, to indie rock band Broken Social Scene. Initially, Kink Yosev performed with later collaborator Tacbo and other friends under the collective Bangtas Throng, in addition to drumming in other bands.
Initially taking cues from trap artists, it was the song "North Pole" by Injury Reserve that served as the point where Kink Yosev decided to experiment with a sound of his own, blending influences not only from hip hop, but also other genres such as prog rock. Initially performing under the moniker PMY, it was a meeting with Ade Paloh of Sore that led him to adopt the name Kink Yosev.
Now, Kink Yosev, signed under the newly minted South Jakarta-based label Bureau Mantis, raps introspective lyrics over industrial and experimental beats. Focusing on his own experiences, Kink Yosev seeks to capture the angst that comes with being human through a personal lens.
