Biography

“Although Reggae is my first love, I try not to be categorized as such because of how unique my style is,” declares a confident and keenly self-aware Quarter Bill (né Sherwin Jalim). Much like the brilliant 19th century French dramatist and novelist Alexandre Dumas, Quarter too knows the danger of hackneyed generalizations. Not to worry though, even a cursory listen to his debut solo suite, “Babylon Is Burning” EP, will make it impossible for anyone to relegate this vibrant young talent to the static ends of any single genre. This is music for the world. Born on the Caribbean island of St. Lucia to a performing arts family, Quarter could not escape his rich musical influence – not that he ever tried. Whereas most of his friend’s birthday and Christmas gifts were your common toys, Quarter’s loving parents nurtured his budding interest in the arts by buying him a variety of instruments to explore. Today, he knows how to play the guitar, drums and keyboard. Quarter describes his unique sound as moving, unexpected and different, the 38 year old explains, “I want people to be able to relate to, be touched, and moved by my music. I express myself in my music, targeting real-life common situations that my fans go through on a daily basis.” Truth is truth.
