Fes Taylor has been a fixture within the underground New York rap scene since the mid-'90s. Back then, the Harlem-born, Staten Island-bred artist was known as Profes, an MC who had developed his skills at talent shows and in battles. Signed to Black Fist Records, the rough-edged Taylor appeared on the label's greatest commercial success, King Just's Mystics of the God, which peaked within the top half of Billboard's R&B albums chart in 1995. Although he ultimately didn't headline any Black Fist releases, Taylor became one of the East Coast's more prolific rappers, with dozens of full-length titles -- mixtapes and albums -- issued over the course of the next two decades, primarily through the Chambermusik label.
