Biography

Alexandre Debrus is born in a family of professional musicians, son of Eliane Debrus-Boucher (cellist) & Raoul Debrus (violist), both soloists in the RTBF Symphony Orchestra in Bruxelles. At the age of four he started to play the cello under the guidance of his mother. He studied with Luc Dewez (Mons and Waterloo), Mischa Maisky (Siena), Mark Drobinsky (Siena and Paris), Yvan Monighetti (Basel) and Mstislav Rostropovich (Beloeil). Alexandre Debrus gives many concerts throughout the world such as in Belgium, Holland, France, Switzerland, Germany, Serbia, Italy, Spain, Greece, United States, Russia, Argentina, Brazil, Japan, Israel and in China. In 2007, he was honored by the city of Nagakute in Japan, which awarded him the title of honorary citizen. Alexandre Debrus founded the Carlo Van Neste Trio in 2005, composed to this day of Karin Lechner (piano) and Alissa Margulis (violin), thanks to the support of the Carlo Van Neste Fondation. He has made twenty-two recordings as a soloist and in chamber music on various labels such as Pavane Records, EMI Classics, RCA Victor Red Seal (BMG), Warner Classics, etc.). Alexandre Debrus plays with a Georges Heynberg (Liege 1934) "Pegasus" cello and a Jan Strick (Brussels 2004) "Alexandre" cello.
