Biography

César Orozco is a Cuban born pianist, violinist, composer, arranger, producer, and educator based in the NYC Tri-State area. Some of the artists he has worked with include Paquito D’Rivera, Pedrito Martinez, Gary Thomas, Alex Norris, Troy Roberts, Paul Bollenback, and Giovanni Hidalgo just to name a few. In 2019, Orozco was nominated for “Best Arrangement” at the 20th Latin Grammy awards for his piece “Imprevisto”, performed and recorded by Pablo Gil & The Raices Jazz Orchestra featuring Tony Succar. Kamarata Jazz is Orozco's main project, which he created it back in 2006 while living in Venezuela. The group was originally conceived as a quintet: piano, bass, cuatro, percussion and drums. Currently, it alternates using a saxophone instead of the Venezuelan cuatro, or also as a sextet including both, cuatro and saxophone. With Kamarata Jazz, Orozco has developed an innovative approach to a fusion of Venezuelan and Cuban traditional music with Jazz and other genres such as flamenco, tango, and bossa nova. The core of the repertoire is based mostly on Orozco’s original compositions, as well as arrangements of well-known Venezuelan and Cuban pieces from the traditional repertoire. César Orozco & Kamarata Jazz discography includes “Son con Pajarillo” (2007, self-release), “Orozcojam” (Guataca, 2010, awarded for Best vocal/Instrumental album at Cubadisco 2012), “No Limits for Tumbao” (Alfi Records, 2015) and the latest one "Rooted Forward", which was be released in October 2020.
