Sarah is a Canadian-born, UK-resident conductor, organist, pianist, and composer. She is Director of Music at Selwyn College, Cambridge and Director of Ely Cathedral’s Girl Choristers. She has been at Selwyn since 1999, and was the first woman to hold such a post in an Oxbridge Chapel. Sarah came to the UK as Organ Scholar of Robinson College, Cambridge after studying piano, organ, and conducting at Toronto's Royal Conservatory of Music Glenn Gould School. Her teachers were Leon Fleisher, Marek Jablonski, John Tuttle, and David Sanger. Sarah has played conducted around the world, and has made over 35 commercial recordings. Her first solo disc, Bach’s Goldberg Variations on the Steinway-D in Ely Cathedral will be released in May 2024. Sarah is a Fellow of the RCO, and teaches and examines for Cambridge and the RCO, and a course director for the Rodolfus Foundation. As a composer, she has over 65 published titles and is series editor for ‘The Sarah MacDonald Choral Series’ with Selah Publishing. She writes a popular monthly column for the The American Organist magazine, called ‘UK Report’. A compiled volume of her essays was published in 2022. She holds honorary roles with the Society of Women Organists, the Herbert Howells Society, and the School Organists’ Association. She is University Organist at Cambridge, the first woman to hold the ceremonial role, which dates back to 1670. She takes up the office of President of the Royal College of Organists in 2024.
