Biography

The BACH COLLEGIUM MUSICUM is a musical chamber ensemble specialized in the performance of the so-called “early or ancient music”. His repertoire covers the European Renaissance and Baroque periods, trying to follow historicist criteria of interpretation. The name "COLLEGIUM MUSICUM" for this musical group comes from one of the three types of musical groups that arose in German and German-Swiss cities after the Lutheran Reformation and the Catholic Counter-Reformation, and which continued until the end of the musical baroque in the middle of the 18th century. The "COLLEGIA MUSICA" met to perform both vocal and instrumental music, for the simple pleasure of making music. Although the original concept of these societies was "amateur", the "COLLEGIA MUSICA" used to count among their ranks professional musicians and singers who wanted to collaborate with them, and even musicians and singers, who were not members of the "collegium”, to join them in different staging. Johann Sebastian Bach was one of the great promoters of this type of musical training, a task that he carried out at the Cafe Zimmerman in Leipzig, advising, teaching and even sharing the stage with musicians who simply wanted to make music. And in honor of the work done by the "old wig" (J. S. Bach), we take his name for our "Collegium". Jorge J. Collantes is the Musical Director of this ensemble since 2015. www.bachcollegium.ml
