Eric Von Schmidt and Rolf Cahn

California Concert with Rolf Cahn

Biography

Rolf Cahn is a folk-blues and flamenco guitarist with an emotionally expressive voice who has composed music to be performed at the Brussels World Fair, various theater productions, and a T.V. show during the 50's. He gained a wide degree of popularity in the early '50s as a nationally syndicated radio DJ for his programs on flamenco guitar and "The History of the Negro Spiritual." His recordings for Folkways Records are seminal folk-blues recordings showcasing his respect and first-hand knowledge of the blues tradition as well as his soulful voice and well-traveled, versatile guitar skills. His performance with Eric Von Schmidt of Sin Killer Griffin's "Wasn't That a Mighty Storm" is one of the highlights of the popular Troubadours of the Folk Era. Vol. 1 which served as a catalyst for the folk- blues, folk- rock revival during the 1990's. Few of his recordings are still in print but they are worth searching for. ~ Wilson McCLoy, Rovi
