Quickly breaking through to major mainstream success in the hip-hop world, Brooklyn based rapper Ciph Boogie remembers being at his late grandma’s apartment in the late 90s and looking down as Jay-Z shot the video for the classic, Grammy nominated “Hard Knock Life” on the streets near the same Marcy Houses housing project where the future superstar and mogul grew up. 
 Inspired by groundbreakers like Jay-Z, Biggie and Nas, Ciph began writing his own rhymes and fusing his own beats with a confidence that shines through. Most of Ciph’s music contains an uneasy undercurrent, from his early Quiet Storm mixtape through 2008’s Black Mamba LP and the more recent Some Time in New York City EP. His wordplay sparkles on top of winding, minor-key hooks and hits, making for an irresistible yin-and-yang. Every new release from Ciph Boogie has been a remarkable progression, and we now find him at the top of his game. In august of 2012, Ciph was crowned the grand prize winner of the ESPN Main Event Competition, scoring a prime placement of his single “Solemnly” from the 2011 Sometime in New York City Vol 1 EP, on the sports network’s Friday Night Fights show. Also in 2012, the single “Rush” from the 2008 album Black Mamba, was used by Red Bull, for their “Red Bull Racing’s American Vacation” promotion video that aired on you tube. To date the video has amassed 1,707,077 views. Ciph is in the process of recording the follow up EP which will be entitled sometime In New York City Vol 2.
