Biography

Nearly thirty years into their career, Gusgus are still the most loved electronic act hailing from Iceland. Their early downtempo records are certified cult classics, their mid-career dance albums are club staples, and today they are widely known as one of electronic music’s very best live bands. Gusgus seamlessly blends analog hardware wizardry and cosmic pop songwriting, making for an exhilarating and unpredictable experience both in concert and on record. Producer Biggi Veira and singer Daníel Ágúst are the only constants in an ever-rotating cast of artists and performers that have all had a lasting impact on Gusgus’ legacy–but it’s safe to say the line-up has reached new heights with their latest recruit, songstress Margrét Rán (also a member of the band Vök).  With their 10th album, Gusgus have set the course for a strange and mysterious place called Dance O'rama. Described by some as a rave-mall in a nostalgic future, Dance O'rama is, or was, or will be, “the place to be,” somewhere you can experience infinite freedom, finally unchained from genre and gender and other such pedantic bourgeois concerns. Moving on from the pulsating new-wave influenced techno-pop of their last album “Mobile Home” (2019), Gusgus now channels the liberating vibe of DanceO'rama: an arousing, highly melodical hybrid of 80s/90s parties and raves.
