Biography

Secretive German synth ghosts Spargelkunst approached Shane Young and invited him to add spoken word to some minimalist mood music they’ve created during the lockdown in their remote corner of Bavaria. Over eleven tracks, Shane read aloud excerpts from three of his novels. The result is Everything Has Changed, a collection of pieces in the style of bleak-film-score-meets-audiobook. Unlike an audiobook, however, there is no continuity between scenes; instead, each excerpt provides a random glimpse into a story, letting your brain fill the gaps. You may create your own story from the fragments, or simply let the atmosphere wash over you like a foreign film you’re half-watching while chomping on Bratwurst chased down with a good Doppelbock. Either way, it’s an unusual and stimulating way to spend a little quality isolation time. Climb outside yourself and into the minds of European weirdos. Usually reclusive Bavarian electronicists Spargelkunst are taking the opportunities provided by lockdown to collaborate with a number of UK-based writers and musicians on various projects. Spoken word, stories, soundtracks and songs. And sometimes just music. Warum? Warum nicht?
