Biography

Marion von Tilzer is a pianist and composer - an intriguing musician, who knows how to combine diverse musical styles in surprising and original ways. With her synthesis of classical Indian and contemporary music, she has collaborated with musicians and choreographers around the world, as a composer and performing musician in her own ensembles. Thanks in part to the visual power of her compositions, her music has been used in documentaries, films and television series. Marion's projects have been called amazing, fascinating and accessible. In October 2012 she received the first prize of the Donemus Composition Prize for Female Composers for the composition 'Rote Schuhe'. The piece will be performed by the Dutch ensemble 'De Bezetting speelt' next year. Recently Marion and her chamber music ensemble recorded their excellently reviewed third CD Kirvani Revisited. Commissioned by the German WDR Radio Symphony Orchestra in Cologne she has written two compositions for orchestra, for which she received an honorable mention (Theodore Front Prize). A composition she wrote for the city of Amsterdam was premiered at the Concertgebouw. Currently Marion is working on some compositions for solo piano, which will be performed and recorded soon. Marion, who was born in Austria, lives in Amsterdam, where she studied classical piano at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.
