Biography

Julija’s repertoire includes pieces from baroque to contemporary music. Her interpretations are characterized by a great expressivity and temperament, refined technique, and a warm sensitivity for color. Her exciting way of playing often led to mutually inspiring collaboration with contemporary composers. Several pieces have been written for and premiered by her. So is the latest CD 'D a r k V e l v e t' on Challenge records a result of a thirty years-long collaboration with composers. Julija Hartig was born in Yugoslavia to a family of musicians en started her violin education at age 5. After finishing her studies violin at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad (Yugoslavia), she was engaged as an assistant professor in the class of her former teacher Evgenia Tchugaeva at the same conservatory. Since 1994, she lives in The Nederlands, where she studied at the conservatory of Rotterdam with professor Ilya Grubert and in Utrecht with professor Keiko Wataya. As a soloist, she performed with various orchestras such as Radio Kamer Filharmonie, Brabants Kamer Orkest, St. Georges Strings, Belgrade Strings, and Radio Symphony Orchestra of Serbia. Julija is a member of The Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and various chamber music ensembles among others, Duo Hartig-Broekhans, ROctet, The Hungry Gods, and Ensemble REI. She is one of the founding members of podium SPLENDOR Amsterdam and one of the initiators of the collective LUDWIG. www.julijahartig.com
