Biography

Originally from Michigan, Soko came up DJ’ing in classic Detroit hip hop venues and learning from some of the best DJ’s in the business. This led to being a part of The Left, the critically acclaimed group with Apollo Brown and Journalist 103. Gas Mask, their 2010 album released via Mello Music Group, continues to define true rap rawness. From 2011 to now, Soko has played gigs in Chicago, NYC, Toronto, and all over Europe. He’s toured Europe with Oddisee, and group mates Apollo Brown and Journalist 103. In 2017 he went on tour for the “Canada Loves Dilla” series with DJ Rhettmatic of the Beat Junkies, Illa J, and Dank. Outside of hearing Soko spin at shows, his musical mixed bag can be heard every 3rd Sunday on Waxx FM Radio. In 2015, Soko started the Left of Center (LOC) record label. In the same year he released the compilation record Domino Effect. Domino Effect features Soko’s expertly placed cuts and scratches behind some of the heaviest hitters in the game including Guilty Simpson, Hassaan Mackey, Red Pill, Slimkat78, House Shoes, Finale, and many others. Following the success of Domino Effect, Soko began managing and DJ’ing for two of Detroit’s next lyrical virtuosos, A Minus and Nolan The Ninja. Nolan’s three most recent projects were executive produced by Soko and released on Left of Center. In addition, Soko is the manager for Trox who has produced for 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg, and Ty Farris. For all that and more, you will always be able to expect quality from Soko.
