Shuj Roswell is the latest musical creation of Denver's own, Mark A. Cooley. Releasing his debut album, Flying High Above The World, on Michal Menert's (PLM) own Super Best Records label in 2015, Mark fuses traditional sample based hip-hop drawing from 60’s and 70’s Funk/R&B, with warm analog synthesis and hard hitting beats that set the table for a sound he calls, Funktronadelic, or electro hip-hop soul. In addition to his laptop, modular synth, and guitar, Mark is accompanied on stage by drummer, Eric Imbrosciano, a three piece horn section and Emcee. Eric comes from a hip-hop, funk and jazz background originated from his early years gigging in the New York music scene. He brings to life the laid back hip-hop grooves and drum breaks found in the Shuj Roswell sound. Primarily performing as a live band, they are also known to bill shows as The Shuj Roswell Experience. In addition to the drums and horns, the Experience adds a keyboardist and turntablist to the line up for a more experimental and improvosational set. Instead of the artists replacing the written sections of music, they’re given the space and freedom to improvise their own musical parts to add new and interesting layers to the overall sound. A sound that promises to be good to your earhole.
