Gunnar Halle is back with his second album ‘Halle’s Planet’ and embarks on domestic and international tours. Where the first album ‘Istanbul Sky’ was a collaborative, home-crafted affair with a broad stylistic pallet, the focus of the follow-up album is a studio recording of jazz with its roots in 1970s rock. This time we are presented with entirely instrumental music. Melody is however still central, the tracks having been written and performed as though they were songs. The debut album ’Istanbul Sky’ released in 2015 put Halle on the map not just as an innovative trumpeter but also as an inventive songwriter and vocalist and the record got praise for its daring mix of disparate stylistic expressions. After four years on the road in Norway and abroad Gunnar Halle Quartet has established itself as a solid live band. It’s about tight compositions but also airspace for lofty improvisations from his faithful troupe comprising danish Stephan Sieben on guitar, bass player Putte Johander from Sweden, norwegian Knut Arne Finsrud on drums (right channel) and Wetle Holte on drums (left channel). Recorded live at Forsgren og Engfeldt studio i Oslo, Technician: Marcus Forsgren mix: August Wanngren, Copenhagen. Mastering: Chris Sansom, Propeller Studios, Oslo. Label: Ozella Music (Germany), Release: 1. Nov 2019. Produced by Gunnar Halle and Wetle Holte
