Biography

Cuban pianist, born in Holguin in 1929. Huberal Herrera, National Award of Music 2020, (Premio Nacional de Música 2020), collaborated closely with the Cuban composer Ernesto Lecuona. Two master degrees and PhD in Law, he is one of the original founders of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba -UNEAC. Recognized world-wide as one of the best, most faithful and finest interpreters of the music of Ernesto Lecuona, having recorded in Spain the comprehensive collection of Lecuona's music for piano, internationally released in a triple CD by DECCA record label. His interpretation of "La Comparsa" is part of the CD "The Best CUBAN album in the World... Ever!" on the Virgin record label. Huberal Herrera performed the premier of the music of composers including Janacek and Hubert de Blanck, and has performed a wide range of concerts from Rachmaninov to Chopin, and Joaquín Rodrigo and others. As to the lesser known composer Hubert de Blanck, Huberal Herrera is acknowledged as the leading interpreter of his music for piano. His documentary "Huberal" (2018) has been presented in the cinema and on Cuban national television. He recently collaborated with Ana María Ruimonte to record the CD Rosas para Lecuona. As a composer, his cycle "Canciones Cubanas con Versos de José Martí" recently received their premiere recording with Ana Maria Ruimonte.
