Julia Werup a Swedish singer and poet (born in 1987) has despite her young age made a name for herself in the international art scene. As a singer, she’s self-taught. Her effortless ability to hit the right notes was cultivated far from any practice room, and as her voice and narrative have grown into something special and recognizable it’s important to appreciate her formative experiences throughout what can conservatively be described as an oftentimes complex life. The music live´s on the artistic merit of Julia Werup, and just like her and her story, the music is special, unique, strong, and recognizable. “The Thrill of Loving You” that breaks new musical ground and is considered her official debut as a jazz vocalist. The project is inspired by icons from the rich history of jazz – including Chet Baker,Billie Holiday, Monica Zetterlund, Abbey Lincoln, and French Jacques Brel, whose lyrics to ‘Ne me quitte pas’ Julia Werup translated into Swedish ´Lämna inte mig´ DEAR FRANCES, a new album of original music. Dear Frances features the same lineup from Werup’s previous release but pivots away from well-known jazz classics, instead presenting original material. The dark sound her previous albums embraced is now to some extend replaced with something lighter, brighter, and more optimistic. The songs on the new album swing elegantly between experimental vehicles. It is a romantic, nostalgic, and jazzy modern pop album that points to the past and the future.
