k_anti, Kanti Gurung and her family settled in Kent in the 2000s from Nepal. Her father a former Gurkha, Kanti’s upbringing in the Army Barracks inspired tracks like Sapana Ma sampling gunshots she heard throughout her childhood during firearm practice. After moving out of the Barracks, Kanti attended a selective Girls Grammar school. She struggled to feel accepted by her peers, whom she felt alienated from. In 2018, Kanti dropped out to pursue her education in Fine Arts. Kanti began exploring music as an extension of self-expression, releasing songs under the pseudonym Kanti Sunflower on SoundCloud in 2019. She went on to study Songwriting at the institute BIMM, London. It was here that her lyrical gifts were recognised by her teacher Saint Saviour, who connected Kanti with Kilder. This led to a feature on the track 'Bad for Me' in Kilder's Don't Hide 2020. After a hiatus, she returns with her self-produced EP Another Life written and produced by k_anti. Aside from the track I Used To Be, she worked on with her sister M4RY. I Used To Be was aired on BBC Radio 1 the same day Kanti and her sister were racially attacked in their hometown. This incident brought forth tracks like Jili Mili where she reflects on her inner transformation, processing the identity crisis she felt. anotherl1fe.com
