Clerel's journey from Douala, Cameroon to the world stage is nothing short of extraordinary. Growing up grooving to his parents' stereo, he developed a unique habit of singing his favorite songs to himself, honing his vocal skills. A family move to the United States introduced him to the acoustic guitar and a life-changing visit to the Stax Records Museum of American Soul, where he found his soulful voice. After earning a degree in chemistry, Clerel moved to Montreal, Canada, where he quickly made a name for himself on the strength of his captivating vocals. His debut EP, Songs from Under a Guava Tree (2019), co-produced with Kento Kataoka, showcased his soulful influences, followed by a digital 45, My Anthem / Talking About Love (2020) and his first Francophone project, Interlude (2021). Clerel's talent has taken him to new heights, including appearances on La Voix (The Voice Canada) and The Late Show’s #PlayAtHome series. In 2023, he embarked on his first international tour, supporting Schitt's Creek's Noah Reid across the UK, US, and Australia. His latest EP, Kaleidoscope (July 2024) updates his unique blend of soul and authenticity with modern influences from musical collaborators from Toronto to Kinshasa, further connecting with audiences around the world.
