A queer, black rapper from East Nashville, TN, Preston "Famewalking" Crowder has created a unique catalogue of music that explores themes of sexuality, blackness, and queerness through a hip-hop lense. From writing raps and lyrics in middle & high school, Fame eventually took his writing skills and pursued a BFA in theater, which he obtained in 2016. After getting his degree, he returned to writing music, but this time pursuing it more seriously. Utilizing his theater background, he created the identity of Famewalking in order to have a lane to express himself musically. With his first release in 2018, "Bad Influence", Fame makes it very clear that his mission is to create visibility for members of the LGBTQI+ community within hip-hop. In a space that has historically strayed away from highlighting queer rappers, Famewalking hopes to show that there is an avenue and a want for queer voices within the hip-hop realm. This is further proven with his follow up tapes including "For Queers With Killer Instincts Vol. 1 & 2" (2018,2019), "Holiday Queer" (2018), "F.A.G." (2019), and "The Neon Devil" (2020). As an independent artist, he hopes to inspire the small audience of listeners he reaches and hopefully one day be able to spread his queer brand of ass-shaking, love-making, and celebration to the masses.
