Brett Aplin is an award winning Australian composer for film and television. A classically trained pianist, he won the 2000 Annual Pete Carpenter Fellowship (BMI Foundation, NYC) and traveled to Los Angeles to work with Emmy and Grammy award-winning television composer Mike Post where he composed music for Law and Order: SVU and generally couldn’t believe his luck. Since then he has scored more than 50 films including features and documentaries, many of them highly acclaimed and awarded internationally, co-composed over 34 hours of television drama across 4 series, and co-composed over 50 hours of children’s television across 5 series. His music has been heard locally on ABC1, SBS, Network Ten, Channel 7, STAN and internationally on BBC, National Geographic, Animal Planet, The History Channel, ZDF, Discovery, Netflix, Nickelodeon and many more. He has been nominated for thirteen APRA Australian Screen Music Awards winning twice, most notably for his score to the BBC’s Natural World episode Tiger Dynasty (2012). He has also been awarded an Australian Film Institute (now AACTA) Award and received two further nominations including for his work on James Cameron’s Deepsea Challenge. Recent credits include the 2nd season of the hit children’s television series The Bureau of Magical Things, and co-composing the music for the AcornTV series Ms Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries and the 8-part crime / horror series The Gloaming for STARZ with Burkhard Dallwitz and Dmitri Golovko.
