Biography

Ippolito Baccusi was a composer of madrigals and sacred music (masses as well as settings to the Psalms). His career is not well documented but it appears that he served on posts at both Mantua and Verona. Baccusi studied with and was influenced by Zacconi, Willaert, Rore and Gabrieli. One of his works "Fuor, fuori o muse" was composed in response to the defeat of the Turks by the Venetians. Conterpoint, improvisation, and the parroting of instruments with vocal parts were qualities of his work. ~ Keith Johnson, Rovi
