Born in Rio de Janeiro, Alessandro Santoro took a Master's degree in piano at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow in the class of Elena Richter in 1991. He completed his master's degree in harpsichord in Jacques Ogg's class at the “Koninklijk Conservatorium” in The Hague, where he later joined the faculty. He performed in Europe as a member of ensembles such as La Petite Bande, The Orchestra of the 18th Century and was founder of the Den Haag Baroque Orchestra. He is regularly requested as a harpsichord teacher at festivals throughout Brazil. His discography comprises 23 CDs, highlighting the “Diapason D’Or” for the CD with works by Leclair with Luis Otávio Santos and Ricardo Rodriguez Miranda. As a pianist, he recorded extensively the works of his father Claudio Santoro, including the complete works for violin and piano with violinist Emmanuele Baldini, the First Piano Concerto with the Samara Philharmonic Orchestra in 1992, and an album of unpublished works with bassoonist Fábio Cury. Recently, he released through NAXOS the first complete recording of Claudio Santoro's piano sonatas. Since 1989 he has been editing and publishing his father's work, as well as administering the material and virtual archives of the composer. He is currently a professor of harpsichord and basso continuo at EMESP - São Paulo State Music School.
