Biography

Firmly established as one of the leading string quartets of its generation, the Doric String Quartet receives plaudits from audiences and critics around the globe. Having won several prizes including 1st prize at the 2008 Osaka International Chamber Music Competition in Japan, the Quartet's schedule takes them to the leading concert halls around the world including Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Vienna Konzerthaus, Berlin Konzerthaus, Hamburg Elbphilharmonie, Paris Louvre, Carnegie Hall in New York and Kioi Hall Tokyo as well as regular performances at Wigmore Hall in their hometown, London. Prolific recording artists, the Doric String Quartet have, since 2010, recorded exclusively for Chandos Records. Their discography features a wide survey of the string quartet repertoire including music by Haydn, Schubert, Schumann, Britten, Janacek, Korngold, John Adams and Brett Dean. Formed in 1998 the Doric String Quartet studied on the Paris-based ProQuartet Professional Training Program and later at the Music Academy in Basel. In 2015 the Quartet was appointed as Teaching Quartet in Association at the Royal Academy of Music in London. In June 2018 they become Artistic Directors of the Mendelssohn on Mull Festival.
