Traffic Fiction—Burt’s third album on Oh Boy Records and an unexpected musical reinvention rooted in his new and idiosyncratic version of classic soul. Drawn from formative childhood rides in his grandfather’s 1975 Cadillac Seville listening to The Delfonics and Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye and The Temptations. Those drives were his sanctuary, that music their blessed score. These early influences emerged in full bloom on the latest release from Burt, Traffic Fiction evolved from the folk, blues troubadour sounds of Caught it From The Rye and You, Yeah, You. To get to this new alchemy of soul, dub, and more than a little punk, Tré recruited esteemed producer Andrija Tokic at Nashville’s The Bomb Shelter to co-produce his versions of those sounds and poured out in circumspect love songs and joyous tunes of existential reckoning. Traffic Fiction indeed feels like a buoy amid these turbulent times, combining rocksteady motion, rainbow keys, and slippery riffs, muscle shoals and soul influences. It is pure infatuation. www.treburt.com
