Biography

Daniel Skantze, based in Stockholm, Sweden, was born in 1974. His interest in music began in the 1980s when he started playing the saxophone and guitar. In the early 1990s, he began using computers to compose his own music, drawing deep inspiration from the vibrant trip-hop, breakbeat, and drum and bass scenes. A few years later, he discovered dub, which profoundly influenced his sound. Fingertwister’s music is characterized by warm, heavy basslines, intricate breaks and grooves, incorporating dub mixing techniques across genres like drum and bass, ambient, trip-hop, digital dub, and tech house. Daniel joined various online music communities, notably mp3.com, where he was frequently featured. His music was released on multiple labels, and he co-founded Chillosophy Music with Sebastian Mullaert, focusing on 12” vinyls with downtempo tracks, often accompanied by upbeat remixes for club play. Additionally, he licensed his music to a series of documentaries about the making of "The Matrix". Fingertwister has evolved into a lifelong project. While staying true to his roots, Daniel also explores other genres and artistic expressions, such as photography, painting, 3D, and visual media, aiming to create immersive, interactive sonic landscapes.
