Soko Matemai (formerly known as Sharky) was born Marshall Zivashe Muchenje on 8 June 1993 in the small town of Chitungwiza, Zimbabwe. Soko Matemai, which is also his totem, is Shona for “monkey”. Soko Matemai is one of the hottest stage performers in hip-hop with fire raps made up of a fusion of Shona and English. He has torn down stages at Shoko Festival , Festa2H (Senegal) and various charity shows for noble causes. The afrocentric rapper is usually seen rocking African print shirts and tons of beads. His debut album “Soko Matemai” released on the 25th of June 2016 is arguably one of the best hip-hop albums the country has seen yet.
