Biography

b. Canada. The music of singer-songwriter Celia is a sparkling blend of roots rock, power pop and Americana. In his own country the old guard has embraced Celia’s music; he has opened for Gordon Lightfoot and garnered an invitation to play guitar with Canadian folk veterans Ian And Sylvia Tyson, and in England he has been praised by everyone from the Divine Comedy’s frontman Neil Hannon to the BBC’s Bob Harris. Celia launched his brand of amiable-but-smart, highly melodic pop rock with 2002’s Organica, whose blend of arch humour and infectious hooks was recorded by the artist at home, onto his computer. It was another five years before Celia followed up with This Isn’t Here, a collection of expertly crafted tunes brimming with sharp lyrics and winning pop craftsmanship. As with his debut, Celia recorded the album on his home computer, although the big, bold sound belied the music’s humble, homemade origins. Even after two solid releases Celia remained virtually unknown in the USA, but he continued to tour, riding on the momentum of the accolades and audiences his work has earned him at home and abroad.
