Busnois: Missa L'homme armé – Domar...

Biography

This Netherlands composer of secular and sacred music served at Antwerp Cathedral as a singer and was a member of the papal choir at least between 1453 and 1459. Between 1459 and 1463 he sang in the Burgundian court chapel before returning to Antwerp where he remained until his death with exceptional trips to Rome. Of his compositions many exist in fifteenth century sources. A mass is complete but oddly has two entirely different Credos. It is clear that Pullois was partial to styles employing a dominant higher voice. The secular compositions of Pullois were most often scored in tempus imperfectum while the sacred pieces were most often in triple meter. Transcriptions for two of Pullois' compositions appear in the Buxheim Organbook. ~ Keith Johnson, Rovi
