Biography

John Butler is a musician and studio artist from Santa Barbara, California. Born into a very musical family, he began playing the violin at age 5. Throughout his childhood, he played in several youth orchestras such as the Santa Barbara Junior Strings Orchestra, then went on to join the Santa Barbara Youth Symphony which he was a part of for 4 years. Along the way, Butler picked up other instruments such as the guitar, which became the gateway to his songwriting interest. He also picked up the banjo, mandolin, bass, drums, piano, and others. He attributes his ability to easily pick up other instruments to his violin study. In 2015 he released his first studio album entitled “Classroom Ballads”, which kickstarted his career in original music performance. After great reception of his first album, he released “Silence The Heart” (2016); a full-length album that furthered his exposure, and deepened his pursuit of a unique sound. "The Happier Side" (2017) pushed Butler's typical genre to a new level with an RnB/Neo Soul flavor. Since then, he released “Dreams” (2019) as well as a handful of singles. His newest single, “Say Too Much” (2021) is the greatest leap out of Butler’s typical playing style, but retains the key elements of harmony, expression, and musical feeling that he has attributed to his compositions from the beginning. He graduated from Westmont College (2020) with a B.A. in Music with a Vocal Performance specialty and is pursuing a career in music and film.
