Joe Ojeda is a self-taught musician who learned to play keyboard by watching and admiring his older brother and his band. Ojeda’s musical career began in Laredo Texas as a member of a two-man band known as The Bad Boyz alongside Pete Astudillo. During a Tejano Night at a local club, Roxy’s, Selena’s father, Mr. Quintanilla, noticed Ojeda and Astudillo. Quintanilla asked them to join Selena as their opening band. Ojeda and Astudillo became official members of Selena y Los Dinos in 1988. Although Astudillo left the band earlier, Ojeda was an active member until Selena’s untimely death in 1995. As a keyboard player for Selena y Los Dinos, Ojeda’s unique style became a recognizable sound in Tejano music. Ojeda’s contributions included co-writing and co-arranging many of the band’s hits including Baila Esta Cumbia, Como La Flor, Amor Prohibido and many others. After Selena’s death, Ojeda co-wrote Como Te Extrano alongside Astudillo and AB. In 1996, the song won Billboards Latin Song of the Year. On April 7, 2005, Ojeda reunited with the original Dinos at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas for a historic tribute concert in honor of Selena Throughout his career, Ojeda wrote, co-wrote and co-produced songs for Veronica Castro, Pete Astudillo, Chris Perez and Jennifer y Los Jetz.
