Biography

Bass Thomas Stimmel, who was born in Munich, studied at Munich University of Music and Performing Arts while simultaneously taking the musical theatre/opera singing programme at the August Everding Theatre Academy. In addition, he studied at the Hanns Eisler School of Music in Berlin. Thomas Stimmel made his operatic debut at the Prince Regent Theatre in Munich in Puccini’s La bohème under the musical direction of Ulf Schirmer. In 2012, he debuted in Peter Eötvös’s Three Sisters with Staatsoper Unter den Linden in the Schiller Theatre in Berlin. In 2014, he made his debut in Richard Strauss’s Daphne at Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse. In 2016, he appeared at Teatro Municipal de Santiago in Chile in Kurt Weill’s opera Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny. In 2017, Stimmel sang the part of Fafner in Wagner’s Das Rheingold at the Slovenian National Theatre in Maribor. Thomas Stimmel also has an international career performing lieder and has appeared in recitals with for example Helmut Deutsch, Thomas Quasthoff and Liese Klahn. Thomas Stimmel’s concert repertoire includes the great Baroque, classical and Romantic oratorios. Stimmel has performed as a soloist on the concert stage under conductors like David Afkham, Andrew Manze, Philippe Herreweghe, Helmuth Rilling, Miguel Ángel Gómez Martínez, Jörg-Peter Weigle and George Alexander Albrecht.
