Fruit Vendor is an eclectic storyteller from Cape Town whose music fuses elements of funk, hip hop, RnB, rock and jazz with South African styles like ghoema and maskandi. Married with meaningful lyrics and a distinct and colourful live show, it’s his mission to share his musical fruit as far and as wide as possible. From humble one man performances at open mics and church bazaars to full band parties playing alongside artists like David Kramer, Kahn Morbee (The Parlotones), Sipho "Hotstix" Mabuse, Matthew Mole, Majozi, Jimmy Nevis and a range of who's who's - his fruit is being shared, slowly but surely. What started as a humble dream in his grandmother’s granny flat in the Cape Flats suburb of Athlone has germinated into a musical movement spanning three underground EPs, hundreds of shows (from Mitchells Plain park jams to Kirstenbosch Summer Sunset Concerts) and a full length, self-produced, crowdfunded, album known as “The Seedling” - a collection of authentic, South African songs that will make you laugh, dance and maybe even cry. In 2018, he won the Barleycorn Music Club Songwriters’ Competition with an original song called “Bone to Bone” and followed that with another win in 2019, awarded by acclaimed film music production company Stonebear & Mayor in their eMerge Music Competition. “A remarkable storyteller…” Martin Myers (Music Exchange Founder & Director, Manager for Sipho “Hotstix” Mabuse) "Original, quirky, funny and super skilled..." - Weekend Special
