Biography

AtlanticPopes is an out-of-time project of Bernhard Lloyd, co-founder of Alphaville, and singer Max Holler. Even during the great successes of Alphaville, starting with their No 1 debut single "Big in Japan", their immortal pop anthem "Forever Young" and the epic synth pop album of the same name in the mid 80's, Bernhard and the soulful singer Max had already started working together. Max had previously been the singer of the band "Echo Romeo", released by ATATAK and Grundfunk, Düsseldorf. Because Bernhard and Max became best friends during their musical collaboration, it took them a good 10 years to release their first AtlanticPopes album in 2001, a thoroughly independent production, conceived as a virtual project and essentially presented on a wacky website with funny flash animations, very advanced for that time. AtlanticPopes means emotionalizing pop music, with an enormous variety of styles and soundscapes. Hypnotic and moving, with lyrics that show a clear view of the world, often of deep wisdom and always with a special kind of serious humor. After 20 years of audible silence they are still there with timelessly moving themes in virtually boundless papal musicality and thus rightly spread hope for their further artistic work.
