Made up of aspiring musicians based in Los Angeles, the cast of Westside shared their professional and personal struggles with audiences of the TV reality series, which premiered in 2018. A soundtrack issued in conjunction with the show featured slickly produced original songs by songwriters like Diane Warren, OneRepublic's Ryan Tedder, and Train's Pat Monahan in addition to performances by cast members, who included former American Idol contestant Pia Toscano. Eight episodes of the hour-long unscripted series debuted on Netflix on November 9, 2018. In addition to Toscano, its cast consisted of Caitlin Ary, James Byous, Leo Gallo, Arika Gluck, Alexandra Kay, Austin Kolbe, Sean Patrick Murray, and Taz Zavala, whose respective styles spanned pop, contemporary R&B, country-pop, and hip-hop.
