Biography

On discovering he was the only one who could pick out Auld Lang Syne on a toy piano as a very tired 4 year old at a New Year party in the early 70s, he went on to persuade mum and dad that learning violin, piano and flute was a great idea. He then discovered composition, dabbled, experimented and took yet more lessons. Steve plays with one of the oldest amateur orchestras in the UK and has recently picked up the trumpet to understand a bit more about how brass works. Trumpets are even louder than the top register of flutes as his family will testify. Inspiration for his work can spring from anywhere, but is most frequently focussed on observations in nature and the environment. With albums of piano, string quartets and chamber wind music already published on major streaming platforms, Steve's first orchestral recordings were released in May 2024 featuring both an excellent Ukranian quartet, Oleh MStudio, tackling the solo part of his concerto grosso, and friends from Redhill Sinfonia performing Sinfonietta - a short symphony for strings, percussion and celeste. An album of concerti for each of violin, cello and piano, featuring competition winners from Ireland, Italy and Ukraine is released in October 2024. Work is underway on the next album full of music especially for kids. Find out more on stevechowne.uk
