Akkai is the alias of the electronic musician and producer Roman Petrov. Born in Siberia, he began to make music during his teenage years after discovering bass-oriented electronic subgenres pioneered by the likes of Skrillex, Modestep, Kill the Noise and more. Over the years, Akkai had explored a wide scope of musical genres under different names and in a form of smaller-sized projects. His first album, Eyes, released 2017, became Roman's first full-length project and was a bright, rich, and pure reflection on the experience of moving to Canada as a teenager the year prior. Now-Toronto-based producer's sophomore project, BLOSSOM, came out March 2022, had become an hour-long ideological successor to Eyes, this time diving deeper into more intimate and personal experiences and exploring even broader spectrum of musical styles while bringing together the worlds of the electronic and the acoustic. In 2023, the Toronto producer once again reimagines his musical vision, taking his established approach to sound and embracing the raw human emotion of dance and rave that feels so long gone coming out of the pandemic, vividly executed in "Top Down", released in January, and his brand new single “Don’t Know”, coming out May 26.
