Born in South Wales, Rakhi first picked up a violin at the age of 3. Since then she has gone on to have a diverse career leading the Barbirolli quartet and guest leading many UK orchestras and ensembles including the RLPO, CBSO, Orpheus Sinfonia, Manchester Camerata, Immix Ensemble and London Contemporary Orchestra and currently carving her own path as co-founder and music director of the acclaimed Manchester Collective. Over recent years, alongside her work with the Collective, Singh has begun to become more widely known as a collaborator, co-composer and soloist, in recent years performing for and alongside the likes of Philip Glass, Oliver Coates and Björk as well as forging her own path with her triptych of electroacoustic co-compositions with Seb Gainsborough (Vessel) developed between the Collective, Somerset House and Aldeburgh, Snape Maltings. “Perhaps as a reaction to my staid classical upbringing, I find myself increasingly drawn to music that feels full of raw energy and I’m excited when different genres collide and boundaries are broken. I’m only at the beginning of this journey and am hungry for the chance to jump into the unknown.”
