Christiaan Verbeek (Texel, 1984) is a Dutch composer, pianist and multi-instrumentalist. While rooted in jazz and classical music, his musical scope and interests have widened considerably during the last 10 years and brought him diverse collaborations and requests. Next to his own music and developing style, catched on his first own album Texelodes, Christiaan writes music for film and theatre. He has worked with more than 25 directors for about 50 projects. Verbeek won a Golden Calf for his music for the film Helium (2014, Eché Janga) and a BUMA Award for Best Original Music in Film for Buladó (2021, Eché Janga). As composer Christiaan wrote music for Cello Octet Amsterdam, Lavinia Meijer, Vincent van Amsterdam, Tosca Opdam, and for different ensembles and choirs. As a pianist he worked with the Iranian vocalist Sepideh Vahidi and with Sterre Konijn for her debut album ‘een’. In his playing a broad spectrum of influences, from jazz, classical to modern music can be heard. His familiarity with improvisation is always accompanied by his great feeling for ambience and storytelling. Next to his love for solo piano playing Christiaan has performed as a keyboardist in a wide range of theatre productions and bands. He played on all theatre stages, at Lowlands and in Paradiso. With the use of synths, trumpet, bass, drums and his voice he is a very versatile and remarkable musician.
